Walking on the ring

Walking on the ring

Spending a day in the area around the Hofburg is not a problem, but we still want to introduce something else. We get off at the Karlsplatz underground station, where you will immediately see the most beautiful station designed by Otto Wagner.

We walk into the Kärtnerstrasse and cross the ring road. We take the first street on the left (Philharmonikergasse). On the right-hand side you will see the famous Hotel and Café Sacher. The Staatsoper is located on the other side at the rear. If you feel like a cup of coffee and a piece of real Sachertorte, we recommend that you first check out the price list.

Past Sacher we turn left and end up on the ring road. We walk left for a while in front of the Staatsoper. Here you can take part in a guided tour. With your back to the Staatsoper, you can turn right to the Hofburg. We will first visit the Burggarten. Along the first entrance, on the corner, you will see a statue of Goethe.

Via the Goethegasse we walk to the Albertinaplatz (in the direction of Hotel Sacher) and then we turn left to the Augustinerstrasse. Now the programme includes a visit to the Hofburg. Click here to make your selection. One piece of advice we do want to give you. Do take the time to visit the Imperial apartments.

By walking through the garden you end up on the ring road. Cross the ring road, and on the other side you will see the Natuurhistorisches Museum, on the left the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and immediately in front of you there is the new MuseumsQuartier. The best one of all is the Leopoldmuseum.
