Walk: hill of Montmartre

Walk 2: Exploring the hill of Montmartre

Begin your walk at the foot of 'Butte Montmartre' at metro station Anvers. Take rue de Steinkerque, a narrow street, towards the steps of the hill. When you arrive at the square, you can climb the hill using either the steps or the Funicular. If you a Paris Visite pass, you don't have to pay for the Funicular.

Once you arrive at the top of the hill, you can enjoy the gorgeous panoramic view of the city centre and visit the Sacré Cœur basilica.

Facing the front of the church, walk towards the left side of the basilica, then take the first left and again the first left (rue du Mont). You are now at one of the most idyllic places in Paris, the Place du Tertre.

Leave the square on rue du Mont. After the steps, you arrive at rue St.-Vincent. Now go left. Next to the Montmartre museum, you will see the Montmartre vineyard. It is open to visitors and free of charge.

Continue along this road. On the right hand side you see the St.-Vincent cemetery. You arrive at the main road and go left towards the Montmartre cemetery. The cemetery's biggest attraction is the grave of singer Dalida. As you walk downwards, the grave is located in the left section (left of the bridge).

This is the end of your walk. The closest metro station is Place Clichy.
