Walk: Eiffel > Triomphe

Walk 3: Symbols of the city: between the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe

We start our walk near the Trocadéro metro station. The Palais de Chaillot and its various museums are located here. We take a look around the plateau and admire the view of the Eiffel Tower and the fountains below.

We walk down the steps towards the Gardens of Trocadéro. If you have some time, wait for the water show to start. There are usually several shows per hour.

We take the bridge across the Seine towards the Eiffel Tower. You can see the Bateaux Parisien tour boats moored on the Seine. If you are considering a visit to the Eiffel Tower, take into account that this will take about two hours.

Take the Champ de Mars and admire the facade of the Ecole Militaire or Military School. The views of the Eiffel Tower are stunning from the square in front of the Military School.

With your back to the Eiffel Tower and facing the Military School, go left towards the roundabout where you take the Avenue de Tourville towards the Place Vauban. At this square you see the impressive building of the Hôtel des Invalides and its Dôme. A quick visit takes at least two hours (Dôme + Army Museum).

We make sure our visit ends at the Place Vauban. With your back to the church, go left and then left again. At the right hand side you see the Musée Rodin. We will spend an hour here.

We end our walk in beauty as we approach the Place de la Concorde. When we leave the Musée Rodin, we walk along the Boulevard des Invalides in the direction of the Seine. We arrive at the front of the Hôtel des Invalides and the Esplanade square.

We see the Pont Alexandre III, an opulent bridge, which is a continuation of the Esplanade square. At the other side we see the Grand and Petit Palais. We cross the bridge to the Place de la Concorde and its statue of Albert I. The equestrian statue of this Belgian king was made as a tribute to his courage during the First World War when he resisted the German advance. A street was named after him in this area as well.

Our walk ends at the Place de la Concorde.
