Tips for a 3-day trip
|
Not to be missed for a 3-day stay If this is your first visit to Paris, deciding what to do can be quite difficult. The following tips will help you to make a choice. > Tip 1: most museums are closed on Mondays! > Tip 2: the suggested day tours require only 2 metro tickets per day, so it is cheapest if you buy a 'carnet' of 10 tickets at one of the ticket offices at the big metro stations. > Tip 3: pay a visit to one of the three main department stores. Day 1: The best introduction to Paris is a boat ride on the Seine. You can see many of the city's points of interest from the river. Information is provided on board in several languages. The most well-known boat companies are based near the Trocadéro and Eiffel Tower, so after your boat trip you can walk around the area. > Tip 1: go up the Eiffel Tower until the 3rd floor (this is the top). A visit to the Eiffel Tower will take about 3 hours! > Tip 2: if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can escape to the peaceful 'Musée Rodin' or Rodin museum. > Tip 3: a visit to the Hôtel des Invalides (Dôme), a retirement home for injured French soldiers, is a highlight that should not be missed.

Day 2: Make sure to set aside an entire day to explore the heart of the city. We mapped out a city centre walk for you. Start your walk at the unique La Madeleine church near the Place de la Concorde. You can also find the department stores in this area of the city. If you like, you can browse through one of them now. If you want to visit one of the big museums, you will have to choose between the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay. There won't be enough time for both. > Tip 1: make sure you visit the following three churches: La Madeleine, Sainte-Chapelle and Notre-Dame. > Tip 2: you must take a look inside the pyramid at the Louvre, even if you are not visiting the museum. > Tip 3: don't miss the unique panoramic view of the straight line from La Défense to the Louvre. Day 3: We recommend ending your first Paris city trip in the Montmartre area. Our walk on the 'Butte' (hill) takes you to all the interesting spots. > Tip 1: use the steps to climb the hill; it is a special experience. > Tip 2: of course you will pay a visit to the basilica, but don't forget to spend an hour or so at the Place du Tertre. > Tip 3: the Montmartre cemetery is a must. It is more pleasant and small-scale than the grand Père Lachaise cemetery and also has monumental tombstones.
