Köln is a dead city on Sundays
We enjoy animation and a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately Köln is a dead city on Sundays. Only the museums are open and even most of the restaurants are closed.

Christmas Market in Köln
Almost trampled to the ground on the Christmas Market in Köln. Awful, but it was my fault, I had brushed aside all the warnings. Köln on the last Saturday before Christmas is absolutely chaotic. If you don’t go with the flow of people, you risk being trampled to the ground. Apparently the first Saturday, usually at the end of November, it’s perfectly feasible.

Sales period are not fixed in Germany
Here the summer sales begin on the first days of June. So we went to Düsseldorf round mid-July thinking that they would also be busy with sales. But we were wrong. In Germany, they apparently are free to decide when to start, some cities start around mid-July, others wait till the end of July. The tourist bureaus know about it and will thus be able to inform you. The German word for sales is ‘saisonausverkauf’.
