Music in Vienna
|
Vienna, city of music BURGKAPELLE The Wiener Sängerknaben are based at the Burgkapelle. This is the Hofburg chapel and is therefore highly renowned. The choir, the Wiener Sängerknaben, dates back to the Habsburgs. When they are not on tour, you can listen to them during high mass on a Sunday morning. SPANISH RIDING SCHOOL This is part of the Hofburg and it is located along the Reitschulgasse. This also goes back to the time of the Habsburgs. Beautiful white Lipizaner horses dance to music, and this under the strict supervision of magnificently attired riders. The best show to attend is the gala performance on Sunday. During the week the rehearsals are also open to the public. However, the Spanish Riding School is only active for a few months a year. BURGTHEATER At a little distance from the Hofburg lies a beautiful theatre from the second half of the 19th century. The building suffered much damage during the Second World War and has been thoroughly restored. As in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, you can admire magnificent ceiling frescoes. The theatre is now used for plays and you can visit it at specific times on a guided tour.

STAATSOPER Like most buildings along the ring, this building dates back to the second half of the 19th century. It is not only a powerful building, but it is also the home of the Viennese opera. You are not allowed to attend a performance dressed in casual clothes. Because the interior was completely destroyed at the end of the Second World War, this building now offers ideal acoustics and is therefore highly suitable to perform technically demanding plays. You can visit the Staatsoper, and guided tours are available. HAUS DER MUSIK The Wiener Philharmoniker orchestra is a concept all of its own in the world of classical music. This uniquely sounding orchestra presents its rich and legendary history to you. The other storeys of this House of Music give you a glimpse into the future and enable you to experience the music in a unique and interactive way. Produce your own music on the brainopera or conduct the Wiener Philharmoniker yourself.
