Museum Quarter Amsterdam

The three most important museums in Amsterdam are all located in the Museum Quarter. Many of Amsterdam's designer shops are also based there.

Rijksmuseum (National Museum for Art and History)
Until 2009 this museum will be undergoing major repairs. We advise you to consult the Rijksmuseum website to see which sections are accessible. The museum was built at the end of the 19th century in neoclassicist style. You can see many paintings from the 15th Century there, provided everything is open. The most famous painting here is probably Rembrandt's Night Watch. Other areas of interest are sculptures, Asian art and Dutch history.

Vincent van Gogh Museum
This modern building was designed especially to accommodate 200 paintings by Vincent van Gogh.

Stedelijk Museum (City Museum)
You can't really tell by the museum's name, but this is where you have to go if you are interested in modern art. The museum is closed until 2009 due to major repairs.
