Milan

Milan is a dynamic north Italian metropolis that has many characteristics, both in a tourist and economic sense. After Rome, it is the second most important city in Italy. Its monuments successfully impress almost all tourists: the Duomo or cathedral, the monumental churchyard Cimitero Monumentale or the castle Castello Sforzesco. The Castello Sforzesco is a grand renaissance castle and now houses important museums led by the Pinacoteca di Brera, which is well known for its vast and unique collection of Italian paintings. The 'Points of Interest' sections in this Milan city guide give an overview of the most important things to see.

A Dolce & Gabbana dress, a pair of Gucci shoes... Milan is a paradise for those who love fashion and designer objects. The Quadriletero d'Oro or golden quad between Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga and Via Sant'Andrea is the most sophisticated shopping area. Also admire the glitterati (Milanese locals parading down the street wanting to be noticed) in the stylish shopping centre Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. This city guide includes some shopping tips.

Milan is a sparkling world city, which is hip and trendy. Milanese cuisine is also full of creativity and at night the various hot spots in the city keep on changing.  Thanks to frequent daily flights between Milan and Brussels / Amsterdam, Milan is an ideal destination for a city trip, shopping weekend or relaxing weekend away.

Milan is more than fashion
Many tourists travel to Milan for fashion, but it’s only one aspect, and an expensive one to that. Ordinary tourists usually look but don’t touch, because prices are so extravagant. But Milan has a unique cathedral (the Duomo), and you can spend hours looking at the many details. Just outside the city, there’s the monumental cemetery in which you can unwind for a few hours, away from the frenzy.
