Las Ramblas
The Rambla is the promenade par excellence. It is also a uniquely leafy road where it is nice and cool in a hot summer. You will find the Catalan Square on one side of the Rambla, and the harbour on the other side with Christopher Columbus’s column. The Rambla also boasts a vast number of market stalls selling birds and flowers. This is also where artists try to sell their works of art.
If you like colour, then you must visit the La Boqueria indoor food market. This is where fruit and vegetables, fish and meat paint a colourful picture. You simply have to visit this. The entrance is clearly visible from the Rambla. On the other side close to the harbour you can get to the Plaça Reial or Royal Square; a real haven of peace featuring beautiful Gaudi lampposts.

The Rambla is also home to the famous Gran Teatre del Liceu and the wax museum. This boulevard is the place for day-time and night-time entertainment. However, anyone looking for shops, department stores and boutiques is in the wrong place. However, the area does have many souvenir shops.
Plaça de Catalunya
This is Catalonia’s central square! It is a large square and the venue for numerous traditional Catalan festivals. The beautiful stately buildings conceal a hint of Gaudi’s modernism. This is the place for the locals to sit and talk and enjoy the sunshine. There is also an El Corte Inglés department store along the square. This is Catalonia’s most famous department store. The large pedestrian area along this building (Av. del Portal de l’Angel) is a street full of shoe shops and boutiques.
