Istanbul
If you fancy a city trip to Turkey then Istanbul is the ultimate choice. In the past, until early in the last century, it was Turkey’s capital. At that time Ataturk transferred the honour to Ankara. But this detracts nothing from atmosphere and places of interest in this city. Istanbul boats a history of more than 2,500 years. In its glory days the city was called Byzantium or Constantinople. To date it is still the most Western city in Turkey. The part with the most tourist attractions lies in Europe, split by the Golden Horn bay, a natural inlet. On the other side of the famous Bosphorus lies the Asian part. The population is estimated at 12 million!
Istanbul is a metropolis with and ancient and rich past. However, not many of its interesting sites remain. That said, you need at least three days to gain an impression of this world city. The top attractions are the Topkapi palace and museums, the Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque. Also, you really must visit the underground basilica and take a trip on the Bosphorus. The panoramic view from this broad river is magnificent. Then again, your list should include a trip to the Egyptian Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar. Shopping Turkish style is a real experience.
The people of Istanbul are open to tourism. They have Hamams for tourists, which make you feel more at ease and are run in a language you understand (German - English). We list a few of these great places, which make your stay more enjoyable, on our 'general information' page.

Istanbul was perfect

Istanbul was perfect. With it's top quality restaurants and night clubs located in the Bosphorus, with it's cultural heritages and of course great shopping centers it's a "great" city to visit. I cannot forget the Reina club also Nisantasi district which were both full of energy.. Everyone should visit this 2010 European capital of culture..

Bazaars in Istanbul are too frantic
After all these mosques, we wanted something else, an of course there are bazaars in Istanbul. Unfortunately for us, it was disappointing. It was very crowded, the alleys were too narrow, we had the continuous fear off being robbed because of this animation and further we were constantly harassed by vendors. Otherwise, we don’t have a bad word to say about Istanbul. Thank you for the interesting information; it was for us a guiding light through the city.
