Tuscany is a very rich region of Italy, and Florence is its throbbing heart. If you are an art lover, then this city should certainly feature high on your travel itinerary. Allow at least two days to visit the main tourist attractions, such as the cathedral, the Uffizi museum, the Pallazo Vecchio and the bridge which bears the same name.
If you have the opportunity, enter the city via the Michelangelo Square. From here you will enjoy a splendid view over Florence. It is clear that the cathedral or Duomo reigns supreme and that the city was built along the river Arno. In the past, this used to be the life-line of Florence, and now the river boasts one of the most unique bridges in Europe; the Ponte Vecchio.
Art plays a big role in Florence. The Uffizi is the top museum, and the Pallazo Vecchio is a must if you have an interest in civic buildings. The city of Florence also boasts a plethora of churches featuring works of art. However, the cathedral is the most awe-inspiring. Don’t forget that Florence is also fantastic for shopping. You will find all the major fashion brands established in the area around the Via Tornabuoni. There is no busy night life, but there are many beautiful squares which provide a splendid evening setting in order to relax and enjoy sitting out on a terrace.
