Citybreak Barcelona

Things Not to be Missed during a 3-Day Stay Three days in Barcelona will give you a very good feel for its tourist and cultural attractions. We have drawn up a suggestion for three topical walks. Anyone who would also like to include some shopping can refer to the previous page for more information. For days 2 and 3, we suggest using the Bus Turistic to travel around the city. Day 1: City Centre We depart from the Plaça Catalunya, Catalonia’s thriving business centre. We enter the Rambla to visit the indoor food market, 'La Boqueria', and the beautiful square Plaça Reial. We then head down to the harbour and the Christopher Colombus column. This is adjacent to the Maritime Museum and just further down the water you will find the Maremagnum for shopping, eating out, and entertainment. We head back into the old town, or the Barri Gotic, and start with a visit to the Picasso Museum. We then visit the Seu Cathedral and the magnificent Palau de la Musica Catalana. By now we are close to the area from which we departed. Time for a break or shopping in the famous El Corte Inglés or elsewhere.

Day 2: Gaudi Today is fully dedicated to Gaudi, so we take the Bus Turistic at the Plaça Catalunya. This takes us past the Casa Batllo and we hop off again at Casa Mila or La Pedrera for a wonderful visit. You simply have to see this, even if it may sometimes mean waiting for more than an hour. Hop on the bus again and enjoy the ride up to the Sagrada Familia. We enter and take time to view everything at our ease; we may climb a tower or visit the underground museum. We finish the day at the beautiful Park Guëll. We then catch the same Bus Turistic to take us back to the place we started out from. Day 3: Montjuïc Yes, it is that hill in the city centre; a haven of peace after two busy city visits. We catch the Bus Turistic again at the Plaça Catalunya and our first stop is the Nou Camp football stadium of FC Barcelona. At least for the football supporters, because others are sure to get bored here. We then ride along the Spanish Square and pass by the Poble Espagnol. This is where a village was built where you will find virtually all the architectural styles of Spain. At the top of Montjuic we find the Olympic Stadium, the National Museum and the Fundacio Joan Miro. Visit what appeals to you most, and you also have the possibility of going on a few walks. At the top of the hill, you can catch the Bus Turistic back to where you started from or you can also walk down, heading in the opposite direction to the Spanish Square. This walk offers some splendid views over the harbour and the city. On the hill there is also a botanical garden which is free of charge to the public. You will find another bus stop for the Bus Turistic stop at the Christopher Columbus column.
