Budapest

Budapest has become a popular city trip destination. In the second half of the 19th century huge, perhaps even egoistic building projects were started in the Hungarian capital. These are now the top attractions: royal palace, parliament, basilica, opera and central market hall. But Budapest is also a city of traditions. The famous coffee houses have been renovated and restored to their former glory. You can really sense the atmosphere that would have prevailed here when the intellectuals and artists were chatting. Budapest also has hundreds of hot water springs, which rise in the many tens of bathhouses here. You can follow a course of treatment in these baths but just as easily enjoy the beautiful architecture and hot, therapeutic waters.

Buda and Pest are separated by the Danube and the 'wonderful beauty' of this river can be seen at the Danube knee: a bend between magnificent mountains. A day away from the busy city to enjoy a trip on the Danube will bring you rest. You can also take the train, bus or car along the banks of the Danube to Viségrad castle, from where you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Danube knee. Don’t forget to visit the towns of Szentendre and Esztergom.

It won’t have escaped your attention that Budapest has plenty to offer its visitors. As ever, in this city fact file we will give you a concise summary of the high points.

Stay one extra day
For us, it has now become a tradition: we always extend our city trip by one day. We spend it to relax in the park, to sleep late, or to shop when we have the car. In Budapest you should do it to make a excursion to the Donau knee. We followed the program that we saw on your web site, which can be booked in every hotel. On your advice, we did it with the bus and it was really beautiful. We must admit that the weather was on our side.
