Brittany is characterised by a bizarre, rugged, colourful coastline of more than 1000 km. Wind and sea have created a unique natural spectacle. The four departments also have beautiful fishing villages, fortified towns, historic monuments and countless prehistoric remains. Each department is worth a holiday on its own, and we present them to you here.
Morbihan has a few unique places of interest for visitors: the menhirs in Carnac, the magnificent and wild coastal belts of the Quiberon peninsula, the prestigious heath resort of La Baule and the isle of Belle-Île island with its huge aiguilles. A visit to Morbihan will remain forever etched in your memory.
Finistère is a department of Breton, which is rich in variety. Its coastline is home to a number of exclusive natural wonders (Crozon and Pointe du Raz), and typical walled cemeteries with calvaries, a cosy fishing town and the town of Quimper.
Côtes d'Armor is a well-known coastal area with an extremely varied countryside. Cape Fréhel is peaceful, colourful, rich in ornithology and offers vast panoramas. Unique and impressive is the pink granite coast of Ploumanach. You will find peace and calm on Île de Bréhat and in the very old little town of Dinan.
Îlle-et-Vilaine is full of historical towns. The largest of these and also the capital of Brittany is Rennes. Fortified towns and their castles can be found in Vitré and Fougères. An age-old cathedral stands in a town of 5000 souls, i.e. Dol de Bretagne. You can eat oysters to your heart’s content in Cancale. The fashionable health resort of Dinard and the fortified town of St Malo complete the list.
