Colombus’s Column (Mirador de Colom) On the Plaça Portal de la Pau you will find a statue of Christopher Column at the top of a high column. The Maritime Museum featuring important historical ships is also located along this square. This area used to be home to the former shipyards from the era of voyages of discovery. Colombus is said to have arrived here from his first voyage of discovery to America. He is pointing in the direction he thought he had come from, i.e. India! You can take a lift to the top of the 60 m high column.
Maremagnum This is the most recent building project in the harbour. A modern shopping complex with eateries and the attraction of a 3D-cinema. The World Trade Center is sure to capture your attention.

Citadel Park A modest triumphal arch forms the entrance to the Citadel Park. This park is located at the site of a former fortress which was built in 1716 to oversee the Catalans and to quash rebellions. The locals were, therefore, extremely pleased to demolish this fortress in 1868.
At the time of the fortress, the avenue leading towards the triumphal arch was used as a road for parading the troops, to clearly demonstrate to the Catalan population that any revolt would be quashed. This park boasts a monumental fountain by Gaudi, the statue of 'The lady with the umbrella’, several museums, the Parliament of Catalonia and the Barcelona Zoo.
