Athens city-break
|
Not-to-be-missed on a 2-day trip Day 1 It goes without saying that your first day in Athens will be dominated by the Acropolis, the symbol of Athens and the whole of Greek antiquity. The high points are the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the temple of the goddess Athena Nike and the Propylene. Try to set some time aside to visit the Plaka, the old centre of Athens. This area of the city lies at the foot of the Acropolis. If you would rather go shopping to another area, we have written down a few tips for you on this page. Day 2 Let’s forget antiquity for a while and visit the new Olympic stadium (2004). Then return to it again by visiting the ancient Agora, the heart of old Athens. Many of the monuments here were restored in later centuries. Kerameikos is the impressive ancient churchyard. If you have any time to spare you should certainly visit the National Archaeological Museum (Arheologiko Moussio).
